Breaking

I don't watch the news. I never watch the news. It's not that I don't care about current events, but I would rather read a newspaper than watch the news. In an attempt to get more viewers, they put the most..... dramatic, heart-breaking, disturbing stories that will make you feel sorry or scared for the world.

My dad is obsessed with watching the news. He watches for hours a day. For some reason, they show more in the spanish channels than in english (like bloody corpses, or people dying). Because he watches all of this, people dying, women getting raped, the new date-rape drug, psychos lurking in corners, etc., I lived a sheltered life. I was not allowed to do the things my brother (less than a year older than I) was allowed to do. I had couldn't have the friends I wanted to have, and I couldn't go to certain places alone with friends. It was lame, but I understand he was trying to protect me and I love him for that.

Now, though, I just don't watch it because it's so depressing. Most of the news is bad news. Why don't we hear more about.... I don't know, pandas giving birth, or a little girl teaching art classes to the elderly? Things like that? It's just depressing and I get angry watching the shit that they put on the news.

This world is far too crazy. I'd rather watch the leaves tumble down the street, and listen to the wind blow through the palm trees.
